Sudden radioisotope shortage threatens patient care.
Threatens Patient Care I n what members of the nuclear medicine community referred to as a ‘‘devastating’’ and ‘‘catastrophic’’ series of events, the Canadian supplier of more than 50% of the world’s marketed radioisotopes shut down its reactor in late November. The result was an immediate shortage of 99mTc generators that forced a scramble for alternative suppliers and drastic reductions in th...

theory, based on the shape and location of coral formations, on coral’s inability to grow at depths greater than 30 fathoms, and most of all on a scenario for which he had no evidence: that each reef or atoll represents the outer limit of an island that has slowly subsided into the ocean. Read this chapter, if only to be struck by its masterly fusion of acute observation and trenchant imaginati...
متن کاملExpectations from structural genomics.
Structural genomics projects aim to provide an experimental structure or a good model for every protein in all completed genomes. Most of the experimental work for these projects will be directed toward proteins whose fold cannot be readily recognized by simple sequence comparison with proteins of known structure. Based on the history of proteins classified in the SCOP structure database, we ex...
متن کاملAdvances in structural genomics.
New computational techniques have allowed protein folds to be assigned to all or parts of between a quarter (Caenorhabditis elegans) and a half (Mycoplasma genitalium) of the individual protein sequences in different genomes. These assignments give a new perspective on domain structures, gene duplications, protein families and protein folds in genome sequences.
